NuSec Network Personal Development Grant helps deliver positive UK & US outcomes

Thanks to a Personal Development Grant from the Nuclear Security Science Network and financial support from the University of Bristol,  Peter Martin, a Phd Student, was able to attend and present at the Waste Management Symposium, Phoenix (AZ, USA) 5th – 9th March 2017. One of the largest industry events in the world and attracting experts and companies from across the entire nuclear field.

Peter presented his research, the use of unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for the detection and mapping of radiation anomalies at affected sites and its applications to nuclear safeguards and emergency response monitoring.

Key outcomes from attending the event, included positive dialogue with American Universities, National Laboratories and the DoE in the potential future use of UAVs on their affected sites. Peter is also continuing to develop his work in the UK in partnership with Sellafield and AWE.
